Jefferson looks to hold off Eagles

Jefferson came out slow and steady against Commerce, taking a 4-1 lead going into the fourth inning.

Commerce gave up a grandslam to the Dragons, allowing Jefferson to move out 8-1. By the end of the fifth, Commerce had battled back to within three, 9-6. The Dragons put it away with a 12-7 victory over Commerce.

East Jackson
Next up was a rescheduled home stand against East Jackson on Thursday.

While the Dragons took control early behind the pitching of Chris Beck, and took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, the Eagles held tight, holding their own through the first three innings.

But that all changed when Jefferson got four runs across in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. East Jackson answered by scoring their first run of the night in the top of the fifth. But they would get no closer, as the Dragons put six unanswered runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. In the end, it was Jefferson winning their sixth game of the year 11-1.

Beck recorded the win from the mound, giving up one hit and one run while striking out 14 batters in six innings.

Jason Demos had three hits and four RBIs from the plate. Beck went 2-4 with one RBI, Jake Fields went 2-3 with one RBI, Caleb Meek went 2-3 with two RBIs and Corey Watkins went 2-3 with one RBI.

Oglethorpe County
Friday brought a trip to Lexington to face the Patriots of Oglethorpe County.

From the start, the Dragons found themselves chasing Oglethorpe, who put three runs across to take an early lead in the bottom of the first.

Jefferson answered in the top of the second, putting three runners of their own across to tie the score 3-3.

After holding the Patriots scoreless in the bottom of the inning, the Dragons took a one run lead, 4-3, in the top of the third.

Jefferson then took control of the game, holding the Patriots scoreless while they added four runs in the top of the fifth, three in the top of the third and two more in the top of the seventh to win 13-3.

Chris Swancey picked up the win, giving up one hit and three runs while striking out 14 in four innings.

Michael Cidboy led at the plate with two hits and four RBIs. Fields had one hit and two RBIs. Jason Demos went 1-3 with one RBI, Jake Fields had two RBIs and Chris Swancey had three RBIs.

The win gave Jefferson a 7-1 record, and 3-0 in the region.
