Last week was a split for the Banks County tennis teams as both the Leopards and Lady Leopards defeated Commerce, but fell to North Oconee.
Tuesday, Banks was scheduled to play Dawson County on the road. Results from the Dawson County match were unavailable at press time.
Coming up for Banks is East Jackson at home, for the match that will decide which school advances to the region tournament. The match is scheduled for Thursday, but if weather prevents the teams from playing, boys coach Mike Ruth said that next Tuesday’s regular match against East Jackson will be likely be used instead.
The Lady Leopards defeated Commerce in a 5-0 shutout. Up next for the ladies was North Oconee on March 19. North Oconee took the win 4-1 in sets.
In what coach Mike Ruth described as a lucky win, Banks defeated Commerce last Tuesday 3-2. Up next for the Leopards was North Oconee.
“Our kids played hard, they just were out-matched,” said Ruth who compared the North Oconee team to that of Jefferson’s team.
North Oconee defeated each of the Banks’ singles with 6-0 sweeps and defeated the Leopards’ doubles 6-3,6-4 and 6-2,6-4.
