The Jackson County Panthers added another win to their total last week, defeating Athens Christian after losing earlier in the week to Hebron Christian, evening their overall record at 3-3 for the season.
The Panthers have the next week off. They’ll return to the mound on Monday, March 23, when they play host to Athens Christian.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Hebron
Defensive problems and poor base running plagued the Panthers last Tuesday, as they traveled to Dacula to face the Lions of Hebron Christian Academy.
Hebron entered the game with an undefeated record, and soon showed why, as they scored seven runs in the first inning. Despite out-hitting the Lions 12-7, the Panthers made five errors on the afternoon, and was twice picked off base to end innings.
Jackson County worked to overcome the setbacks, and in the end closed the lead, but ran out of time as the Lions went on to win 9-6.
Austin Robinson recorded the loss on the mound after making it only through the second inning.
Robinson went 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Kelly Moates went 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs, while Codye Elrod went 2 for 4 as well.
Athens Christian
As rough as things went against Hebron, they went well on Thursday when the Panthers played host to Athens Christian.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning on a walk, an infield single and an error, Jackson County came back to tie the score 1-1 on a two out, RBI single from Moates in the second.
The Panthers then took advantage of walks and errors by Athens Christian to put eight runs on their tally in the top of the third inning to move out to a 9-1 lead, capped off by an RBI single by Rob Williams.
Jackson County would add three more runs in the next two innings, including an RBI line drive from Austin Moser.
In the end, Jackson County won 12-1 in a game that was shortened by the mercy rule.
