It was a strong start to the season last week for the Jefferson Dragons track and field teams, as both the boys and girls won over Commerce and Oglethorpe County last Wednesday.
The boys scored 71.5 points en route to the win, while the girls scored 106.5.
For the boys, J.J. Damons took first in the high jump, first in the 200-meter dash, and third in the 100 meters.
Josh Kles took first in the discus and placed third in the shot put. Wesley Milton took first in the 400-meter dash, first in the 300 hurdles, and placed fourth in the long jump. Derrick Perkins took first in the 110 hurdles, third in the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the triple jump.
Zac Crosby placed fourth in the shot put and fourth in the triple jump. Tyler Porter placed second in the pole vault, and fourth in the 400 meters. Noah McCarthy tied for fourth in the high jump.
Trae Timmerman placed second in the 1600 meters and second in the 3200 meters. Clay Richardson placed third in the 1600 meters. Tyler Alexander placed fourth in the 1600 meters. Josh Watkins placed second in the 400 meters. Madison Santiago placed fourth in the 110 hurdles.
Nick Walker placed fourth in the 800 meters. Virgil Appleby placed fourth in the 200 meters. Matt Yates placed fourth in the 3200 meters.
The 4x100 relay team of Crosby, Damons, Milton and Judson Stewart took first place.
For the girls, Kasey McDonald took first in the shot put, and second in the discus. Rebecca Stoudenmire placed first in the pole vault and second in the 300-meter hurdles. Marcayla Hester took first in the triple jump, second in the 400-meter dash and second in the 200 meters. Danielle Watson took first in the high jump. Brianna Caudell took first in the discus and second in the 100 meters. Alison Missler took first in the 1600 meters and first in the 3200 meters. Missy Parks took first in the 100 meters and placed second in the pole vault. Erin Knight took first in the 800 meters and placed fourth in the triple jump.
Rana Davis placed second in the shot put. Iniki Allen placed fourth in the pole vault and third in the 100 meters. Eden Starnes took second in the triple jump, and fourth in the long jump. Devin Stanley took second in the high jump. Rachel Goza took second in the long jump. Lauren Taronji took second in the 1600 meters. Laura Price took third in the 1600 meters and second in the 3200 meters. Lauren Phillips placed fourth in the 1600 meters. Holly Baron placed second in the 800 meters. Jessica Runkel placed fourth in the 800 meters. Christina Hunsinger placed third in the 300-meter hurdles. Chelsea Runkel placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. Kathy Buffington took third in the 3200 meters.
The 4x100 relay team of Starnes, Goza, Parks and Hester placed second. The 4x400 meter relay team of Starnes, Holloway, Knight and Hester placed first.
