The Jefferson Dragons tennis teams continued their impressive start to the 2009 season this week with wins over defending region 8-AA champ North Oconee and over Franklin County.
Up next for Jefferson is a trip to Banks County to face the Leopards on Thursday.
Oglethorpe
The Jefferson boys won 4-1 over North Oconee on the road last Thursday.
Zach Bost won at number one singles 6-7, 6-2 and 6-3. Blair Buffington won at number two singles 6-4 and 6-2.
The number one doubles team of Matt Buchanan and Aaron Martin won 4-6, 7-5 and 6-2, while the number two doubles team of Trevor Castellaw and Cason Thurmond won 6-7, 6-2 and 10-6.
The girls were also victorious on Thursday, winning 3-2.
Jessica Johnson won at number two singles 6-4 and 7-5. Miranda McGarity won at number three singles 6-2 and 6-2.
Kristine Chambers and Mariah Yates won at number two doubles 3-6, 6-2 and 6-1.
Franklin County
Jefferson played host to Franklin County on Monday. Despite the different venue, the results were the same, as both teams picked up wins.
The boys won 4-1. Bost won 6-0 and 6-2 at number one singles, while Buffington won 6-2, 6-0 at number two singles.
Number one doubles team Buchanan and Martin won 6-3, 6-7 and 11-9, while the number two doubles team of Castellaw and Thurmond won 7-6, 6-3.
The girls won 4-1 as well. Johnson won at number two singles 6-2 and 6-4. Number three singles player Callie Holloway won 6-0 and 6-2.
The number one doubles team of Ashley Etchison and Colby Fowler won 6-1 and 6-2, while the number two doubles team of Chambers and Yates won 6-2 and 6-4.
Winder-Barrow
On Tuesday, both Jefferson teams handed Winder-Barrow 5-0 losses.
Bost won at number one singles 6-0 and 6-1. Buffington won 6-0 and 6-0 at number two singles, while Sky Porter won 6-0 and 6-0 at number three singles.
The number one doubles team of Buchanan and Martin won 6-3 and 7-6, while the number two doubles team of Castellaw and Thurmond won 4-6, 6-3 and 6-1.
For the girls, Bell Blankenship won 6-0 and 6-1 at number one singles. Johnson won at number two singles 6-1 and 6-1, while McGarity won at number three singles 6-0 and 6-0.
Etchison and Fowler won 6-1 and 7-6 at number one doubles, while the number two tennis team of Chambers and Yates won 6-2 and 6-4.
The wins leaves both Jefferson teams undefeated for the season at 5-0, and at 1-0 in the region.
