Sheppard takes third for Mat Wildcats

Sheppard paced the Mat Wildcat contingent by placing third at 125 falling in the semifinals to the same opponent he battled from Southwest DeKalb previously.

Moore did not place as he suffered a blow to the head, sustaining a possible concussion, illustrating the often times brutal nature of the sport.
Hamrick, competing at 189, also did not place.

“I was proud of how eveyone wrestled,” Stoudenmire said. “They worked very hard. The breaks just get you sometimes. They had chances. Some roads were just very tough. That’s the nature of the game.”

The AHS coach, who was in his first season with the Mat Wildcats, said Sheppard had a great showing during the three-day event in nearby Gwinnett County and has no reason not to be proud of his third-place medal.

“Overall, it was great wrestling,” Stoundemire said. “I wish we could have caught a couple more breaks.”
