It was not the ending that the Lady Dragons of Jefferson had hoped for.
Jefferson saw their region and state title hopes come to an end last Wednesday, as they were defeated by Union County 46-38 in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament at North Oconee High School.
The teams had split their two previous meetings, with Jefferson squeaking out a one-point victory over the Lady Panthers back on Jan. 24.

Lady Dragons' season ends with Union loss
The loss left the number two-seeded Lady Dragons with an 11-15 overall record on the year.
Jefferson hit the court running, but found that the Lady Panthers were ready to play. At the half, Union County led 24-17. The Lady Dragons began working to make their way back into contention in the third
quarter, cutting the lead to five points, 26-21, at one point. But Union again stretched their lead, moving out to 32-23.
The Lady Dragons again closed in early in the fourth quarter, and with just over two minutes left in the game, Jefferson moved to within one point.
But the Lady Panthers went on a tear, scoring eight of the game’s final nine points to pick up the victory.
Emily Jacobs, a senior, led Jefferson in scoring with 14 points in her final game. Skylar Evanson scored 11 points, while Erin Knight scored eight.
