Coming off a win against Eastside, the Lady Panthers of Jackson County were hoping for a little momentum to carry them into the post-season.
But when your first post-season match-up is against the number one team in the region, there’s only so far that momentum can take you.
The Lady Panthers saw their season end last Wednesday night with a 59-27 loss to the Franklin County Lady Lions.
“It wasn’t one of those things where we played so terrible. They’re really a good team, bottom line,” said coach Chad Pittman. “They’re one of the more efficient teams that I’ve seen. They just don’t make mistakes. They do all the little things. They’re very fundamentally sound and so forth.
“They were head and shoulders above everybody in our league this year.”
It was the third pairing of the two teams. Both previous games ended in similar scores.
Breanna Drew led the Lady Panthers in scoring against Franklin County with ten points.
Looking Back
Pittman said that overall on the season, he felt the team is heading in the right direction.
“I felt good about us getting a lot of the younger kids some experience,” he said. “At the end of the year, I was actually starting a freshman, three sophomores and a junior up against most teams that were starting two or more seniors. Overall, I felt good.”
Pittman said he felt that as far as the team being competitive and competing in the league every night, he felt the Lady Panthers “did a pretty good job.”
“We’ve got to continue to evaluate now after the season. I’ll go back and evaluate and look at strengths and weaknesses. Then we’ll go ahead and take a few weeks off and do some out of season work. We’ll focus on our weaknesses and try to improve in those areas, and then try to improve and get stronger in the areas that I felt we did a good job in.”
