Panthers close regular season with two losses

Franklin County

Tuesday night held the second meeting of the Panthers and the Lions of Franklin County. In their previous meeting, the Lions had recorded a big win back on Jan. 13.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, it was more of the same in the rematch, as Franklin County dominated the game from start to finish, winning 77-23.

Joseph Smith led in scoring with 12 points, while Jarvis Shaw scored nine and Trey Sorrels scored two.

“We played our younger kids in the second half,” coach Britt Beaver said. “Franklin is a great ball team.”

Eastside

Jackson County wrapped up their regular season schedule Friday night by playing host to the Eastside Eagles.

Eastside took early control of the game, running up a 15-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Panthers began trying to mount a comeback, adding 14 points to their score, but Eastside answered with 18 points of their own to take a 33-20 lead into the half.

The Eagles continued their control of the game in the third quarter, adding an additional 16 points to their total, while the Panthers put another 11 on the board to make it 49-31. The Panther were able to close the gap a little before the end, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles won 65-50.

Smith led the Panthers in scoring with 13 points.
